TECO Develops “Motor Rotor with Gas-Venting Function,” Wins National Invention & Creation Award

At the award ceremony held today (the 25th) for the National Invention and Creation Award organized by Taiwan’s Intellectual Property Office, Ministry of Economic Affairs, TECO Electric & Machinery captured the Silver Medal (Creation Award) for its innovation titled “Rotor Structure with Gas-Venting Holes.” Applying this patented technology has enabled TECO to significantly reduce motor manufacturing costs while boosting performance, underscoring the company’s strong R&D capabilities.

A five-member team drawn from TECO’s Electromechanical Marketing, Heavy Electric Product R&D, and Intelligent Automation & Biotechnology Center developed the award-winning motor rotor with a gas-venting function. The key innovation introduces axial venting into the die-cast aluminum rotor process, allowing molten aluminum to expel trapped air through dedicated openings. This achieves effective degassing, reduces internal porosity and shrinkage in the rotor, and raises motor efficiency without adding cost or process complexity. By overcoming the traditional efficiency challenges of die-cast aluminum rotors, the team successfully developed a premium-efficiency motor compliant with international IE4 standards.

Motors are among TECO’s core products. As advanced economies have progressively tightened efficiency regulations, improving motor efficiency has become a central task for manufacturers. Die-cast aluminum rotors have emerged as the market mainstream due to their cost advantages, yet they often face efficiency trade-offs. TECO’s patented process addresses these issues head-on. Since launch, the solution has earned strong recognition from leading customers at home and abroad and has delivered outstanding sales results.

TECO Chair Sophia Chiu has long emphasized the importance of R&D and innovation as key drivers of TECO’s growth. TECO currently operates R&D centers in Taiwan, mainland China, and the United States, and pursues a long-term sustainability strategy guided by the principles of energy saving, emissions reduction, intelligence, and automation.
