TECO marches toward smart application and automation from product supply to system integration on 60th anniversary
Charts Vision to Evolve from Product Provider to Intelligent, Automated System Integrator
TAIPEI, October 6 — TECO Electric & Machinery today marked its 60th anniversary with a celebration and technical forum at the Taipei Marriott Hotel. Chair Sophia Chiu said that, guided by the overarching direction of energy saving and emissions reduction,
TECO will transition from a traditional product supplier to an intelligent, automated system integrator, laying out a vision for the next six decades.
Keeping pace with industry trends—and in response to advances in digital technology and the Internet of Things (IoT)—TECO will focus on system integration, positioning itself as a solutions provider and manager of automation and intelligent operations,
advancing into the realm of Industry 4.0 and shifting from supplying standalone products to delivering integrated systems.
To welcome its 60th year, TECO has been aggressively deploying production-line automation. At the Zhongli Plant in Taiwan, the electrical wire production area has already been brought under automated management, which is expected to improve both product
quality and delivery times. In Wuxi, China, TECO has invested about US$67 million to establish a new stamping center, designed to the LEED Gold green-building standard and based on smart-factory principles, paired with top-tier equipment. The facility will
become a key component supply hub for TECO Group going forward.
A special surprise guest at today’s celebration was renowned global strategist Kenichi Ohmae, who delivered congratulatory remarks via video. He noted that all industries will be tested by the digital revolution—including FinTech, IoT, GPS, and smartphone-centric
ecosystems—and that TECO Group is no exception. He emphasized that the coming decade will be a decisive period.
The anniversary program opened with a performance by the music program of Wuling Senior High School—located near TECO’s Zhongli Plant—joined by noted conductor Yu Yen-cheng, presenting George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Additional activities included
a historical retrospective and product showcase, covering TECO milestones, major infrastructure achievements, and smart city solutions.
In the afternoon, TECO and CommonWealth Magazine co-hosted the 2016 Taiwan Benchmark Industry Forum, themed “A Grand Future Amid the Energy Crisis.” Speakers and panelists spanned government, industry, and academia, including former Premier Chang San-cheng,
MOEA Vice Minister (newly appointed CSC Chairman) Shen Jong-chin, Yang Ching-tang, Executive Director of the Executive Yuan’s Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction, Hu Yao-tsu, Director General of ITRI’s Green Energy & Environment Research Labs, and Andrew
Liu, Vice Chairman of TECO Group.
Today’s celebration also highlighted TECO’s human touch, inviting founding family descendants and retired employees. Madam Lin Ming-zhu, affectionately known among TECO colleagues as “Grandma TECO,” was also in attendance, adding to the warm atmosphere.
TECO’s business footprint now spans five continents, over 40 countries and 100 cities, with more than 25,000 employees and 102 affiliated companies worldwide. Product lines include motors, heavy electrical equipment, mechatronics, industrial controls,
home appliances, food, and ICT, and TECO ranks among the world’s top three motor manufacturers.
