The 32nd TECO Award ceremony—one of Taiwan’s most prestigious annual events honoring achievements in both technology and the humanities—was held today (29th) at the Eslite Performance Hall in Taipei’s Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Chih-Kung Lee, Chairman of the TECO Technology and Education Foundation, with TECO Electric & Machinery Chairman Morris Li also in attendance.

Since its inception, the TECO Award has granted more than NT$100 million (NT$102.3 million) in total prize money to 195 recipients, reflecting TECO’s sustained commitment to cultivating technological talent and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.

In his remarks, Dr. Chih-Kung Lee encouraged the laureates with the call to “Let Taiwan Have Its Own Mines,” urging them to foster connection, fellowship, and alliance to reinforce Taiwan’s indispensable standing on the global stage.

“Taiwan is an island without natural mines,” he noted. “This makes it even more important for every individual to embody the spirit of ‘mining’ through innovation and contribution. The laureates of the TECO Award exemplify this spirit through their openness, creativity, and action.”

Chairman of TECO Morris Li congratulated all honorees and warmly welcomed returning past recipients, describing the event as a moment of “coming home.” He expressed pride in the achievements of all 195 laureates recognized over 32 years, whose contributions across technology, humanities, arts, and education have helped shape a Taiwan where “technology and culture thrive together.”

This year’s awards were presented by former ITRI President Shyng-Tai Shi, with former Minister of Science and Technology Jyh-Min Shyu serving as jury chair. Following the ceremony, a salon titled “Mountain, Sea, Sky Light in Pure and Ultimate” was held, moderated by Taiwan Design Research Institute President Chi-Yi Chang. Humanities Award recipient Paul Chiang and Alliance Cultural Foundation Chairman Charles Yen served as panelists.

The 32nd TECO Award in Technology spans four major categories:

  • Electrical / Information / Communications

  • Mechanical / Energy / Environment

  • Chemical / Materials / Circular      Sustainability

  • Biomedical / Agriculture

This year’s Humanities Award—under the Humanities and Arts category—was presented to internationally acclaimed artist Paul Chiang.
